I Gave In

Well, I gave into temptation. My favorite quilting web site is Quiltville.com Bonnie Hunter is just tops in my book as far as quilt designs are concerned. She has inspired me in many ways. She has recently posted a mystery quilt called Carolina Crossroads and invited other quilters to sew along. For my non-quilting friends a mystery quilt is when directions for making a certain quilt is just given a piece at a time, you don't know what the quilt will end up looking like until the very last clue is given. I have never made a mystery quilt before. I read many a post on other quilting blogs about this project. I kept telling myself, "Self, you have enough projects going right now! You don't need to start another one until you finish some UFO's !" My self talk worked for quite a while - but yesterday I gave in. I may have started late, but I have started. I have cut all of the necessary fabrics. From what I understand there are 6 clues in all. The sixth clue was posted yesterday. I have printed off clues one through five. I have asked hubby to print off the last one and put it in an envelope. I am leaving on Monday for a quilting-get-away and my plan is to work on this quilt. I will not look at the final clue until all of the units are made. My fingers are crossed that I won't stumble across a fellow quilter's blog that has posted their finished quilt top before I can finish mine. I don't know if that is possible, but I will try!

I totally agree with you, Marilyn. Bonnie's quilts are beautiful and She is very talented woman in our quilter's world.:-)
Good luck on your mystery quilt and please keep updating your progress!

I found your blog by reading Bren's blog! What wonderful blogs! one of my goals this year is to learn to quilt! I have wanted to quilt since I was a teen, and I am 31 now....so hopefully, I can get started on that! I love to crochet and knit. I cross stitch a bit as well. I am hoping that your blog might drip a few nuggets of knowledge here and there that I can soak up. If nothing else....I'll be inspired! Your quilting is beautiful! (and advanced...I know...I'll find something simple to start with!)
Blessings!

Oh, I know your struggle! I'm resisting jumping on the bandwagon to Carolina Crossroads (so far) but I know when finished tops start appearing on all of my favourite blogs, I'll be in a fetal position under my sewing table, crying "Why, oh why didn't I join in!!!"

Lovely fabrics you've chosen, I've resisted so far. No idea how long that will last though.

Your crumb block mat is absolutely adorable. Here I thought you were going to make a quilt and you thought of something even more interesting. So cool!

Have fun with the mystery quilt. Your fabrics look great! I can't wait to see the progress along the way.

Your sewing mat came out wonderfully. I made a couple of them at Christmas time (one for me, one for a friend.) I sewed the front into 3 pockets and keep a snips, a small scissors, threaded bobbins and the empty bobbins in them along with a screwdriver and the feet I use most. It works out great when I want to move it all, I just roll it up and the contents of the pockets stay put and it keeps everything together.
